Joliet Area Historical Museum
Joliet, Il
The Joliet Area Historical Museum with its Route 66 Interpretive Center is a new regional resource created by the City of Joliet in a former Greek revival church in the center of the city. The church sanctuary, expanded to include a mezzanine level, contains exhibition galleries and spaces for public programs, while the fellowship hall on the lower level is used as an auditorium and space for special events. Multimedia exhibitions in the permanent collections galleries included the historical themes River and City, City of Stone and Steel, Metropolitan City, and Crossroads of Mid-America, supplemented by Talk of the Town, a linkage to present issues, inhabitants, and news.
